There's no let up in the lampshade fever that has gripped Woolacombe this spring!

I never knew how many people out there were in need of a new lampshade or two...I don't think a week has gone by without a few evenings of lampshade making homework. I'm not complaining though, I love the fact that you are all embracing unique design and individual artwork in your homes.

The first 4 designs were so popular that I introduced a 5th, 'Woolacombe evening' and I think that one is now the best seller!

THE PROCESS

Quite a lot of work goes into the making of a lampshade.

It begins with a high quality digital image of one of my paintings, this is then sent off to a wonderful fabric company who use untold magic and wizardry to print the image onto a thick cotton twill fabric.

When the fabric arrives I cut it down to size and iron it.

A fade proof, fire proof self adhesive panel is then applied, the ring set is then coated in binding tape and an placed on the edges of the panel ready to roll (making sure the right ring is at the top!)

I then hand roll the panel on to the rings.

The trickiest part for me is rolling the edges to give a clean professional finish to the shade, you need good strong fingers (which I don't have after about shade number 3!) and the tool is pretty uncomfortable on the hands.....I'm amazed no one has designed an comfy ergonomic one!

and there you have it, a lampshade to make you the envy of all your friends!

If you want to join the gang and buy yourself a shade just send me an email and I can make one to order and ship it out to you by post!
